The Surfers Path Magazine - Green Wave Awards
Chris was born and raised on the edge of Dartmoor in Devon. He had his first wooden belly board at the age of 5 and moved to Cornwall when he was 19. He has a passion for all things environmental, along with a keen sense of justice and equality. Having travelled to varying surf locations around the world and worked within the surf industry, in 1990 Chris was one of the founding members of Surfers Against Sewage and for ten years was its full time director.
From 2001 to 2007 Chris was Sustainability Director at the Eden Project in Cornwall. Chris’ role included the conception and implementation of the Waste Neutral concept and ensuring that sustainability was on everyone’s agenda. He was also the joint instigator of the Eco Surfboard project and was featured on CNN.
Chris is a strong believer in the role of positive media as both a catalyst and pressure point for change. He has appeared on everything from BBC Panorama and BBC Newsnight through to children's TV and BBC World Service.
In 2003 Chris was selected as one of 208 delegates from around the Commonwealth to attend the 9th Commonwealth Study Conference in Australia and New Zealand.
Chris still lives within a mile of Porthtowan beach (formerly known as Porthtampon!) and in keeping with his YIMBY (Yes In My Back Yard) attitude he overlooks the village sewage treatment works. He surfs most days there are waves.
